Andrew Carter
Counseling Associate
Andrew has over 30 years of coaching, teaching, and mentoring experience at all levels of rowing. While much of the past 24 of these years have been in the top-tier of the NCAA, he also served as the Head Coach of the United States U23 Women’s Team, coaching the Eight to a gold medal and the Coxless Four to a silver in 2021. Originally from Canada, Andrew also has highly competitive experience at the university, club, and national levels in both his native country and New Zealand.
Andrew’s university coaching in the US has spanned some of the most competitive academic and athletic programs in both Division I and Division III of the NCAA, including Bates College, The University of Southern California, Clemson University, the University of Miami, and, most recently, the University of Iowa. From building Division III Bates College from the doorstep of varsity status to the one of the top teams in DIII, to coaching Clemson University’s first-ever gold medal performances at the ACC and NCAA Championships, to steering Iowa from the bottom of the Big Ten Conference to one of the top-ranked teams in Division I of the NCAA, Andrew has a strong record of establishing high-performance programming and cultures.
In addition to coaching, Andrew has been involved in Coach Education curriculum development and delivery in multiple countries. As a result, he has taught and mentored coaches in some of the highest-profile programs in the United States.
Andrew’s broad and successful experience, both in the US and beyond, provides him with a remarkable perspective on the ingredients for an outstanding athlete experience, a strong athlete-coach partnership, and personal best performances.
